Yesterday and Today
20 June 1966CapitolUSGeorge Martin
A uniquely American compilation, infamous for the withdrawn ‘butcher’ cover — the Beatles in white coats with dismembered dolls and raw meat, a comment on how Capitol ‘butchered’ their albums.
Territorial note
First pressings used the butcher photograph; after retailers revolted, Capitol pasted a trunk-cover over remaining copies. Peelable ‘first state’ copies are among the most valuable Beatles records.
